The United States Gets Involved
The United States wished to remain neutral at the beginning of World War I, though they supplied many necessities for the Allies. President Woodrow Wilson decided that now that the United States military and economy were strong enough, they could enter the war with the Allies in attempts to spread democracy to other regions of the world.
The picture to the left is a good illustration of how the Unites States got involved in this war. The man pictured is "Uncle Sam," a fictional character invented to recruit new soldiers for the army. With this poster, scattered all throughout the United States, recruits were joining left and right. This allowed the military to become strong enough to involve themselves in World War I.
